Dear Writer,
You’ve probably heard about this journaling or writing prompt before: write a letter to your younger or older self. In fact, didn’t someone even go as far as releasing a series of writing papers aimed at just that particular thing? Big business, I’m sure.
I write this not to give you the benefits of such an exercise, of which I’m sure there are many, and I’m equally sure you know, but I want to share with you some things, important things I hope you keep in mind when penning your missive.
Letter writing is the only device for combining solitude with good company.
Lord Byron
Your Relationship with God, Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit
Tell her why you believe in God, how you accepted Jesus and how the Holy Spirit guides your steps each day.
Share your doubts about your faith and all the things that you still cannot understand about the Bible.
Your Relationship with Others
Your family, relatives, friends, coworkers, acquaintances, neighbours, other church members, the shopkeepers at your daily shop, local politicians, and the world.
What you like, don’t like, what frustrates you, what you’d like them to know about you, and what you wish they would do instead of what they’re currently doing.
Your Goals and Dreams
Have they come true? What’s still to be realised? Tell her what’s going on with your writing and other creative practices you enjoy.
Write to her about where you hope to be by the time you’re her age.
Prayer
And don’t forget to pray for her!
“Father God, You are Holy and worthy to be praised! Thank You! For being You, and I thank You for creating me and for all these dreams and purposes You have placed in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray this. Amen!”
Au Revoir
And there you go, dear fellow writer, four things I hope you’ll keep in mind when writing to your future self, or to a younger self.
Of course, do feel free to change things around. It’s your letter after all.
And now, I bid you adieu.
Love,
Me
