On its back greeting the sun
or so I thought
until I saw it didn't move.
Edging closer, careful,
I poked it with a stick
ready for flight.
It remained, legs in the air
bent at the knees;
a shimmer in its blue-green
body, now dulling in death.
My broken window sill
an altar.
