Some People Secretly Hope You Fail

Some might even wish the very worst for you.

That statement is from a YouTube short clip on ‘dark truths about human behaviour’. Interesting and thought provoking.

You might have noticed it already among your friends, family and relatives, workmates and acquaintances.

Did you notice how your spirit did not like to be around? Are we so caught up with ourselves that we stifle what the Holy Spirit is doing, is trying to get through to us?

That was me years ago, the years right up to, during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. I was desperate to be liked, to have friends that I would laugh off every mean thing, pretend I wasn’t being bullied, or be nice to rude people. I wore a perpetual smile like a death mask.

After the borders were opened and we returned to our jobs, I realised the change in my fellow workers who took the vaccine. All those who got vaccinated got them to get their jobs back, but I’m convinced that the vaccine harmed them instead of helping them.

I’m convinced that the vaccine brought their real self to the surface. And it’s ugly. It’s not only work colleagues who have changed, it’s other people, strangers, fellow commuters in the bus, in town, clients and customers.

Disrespecting your elders is frowned upon in the Fijian culture, but nowadays people are rude, disrespectful, and selfish whether toward a child or an elder.

Now, maybe these people have always been this way and I just haven’t seen it. Perhaps I was desperate for any human, emotional interaction that I was willing to compromise my values for it.
