Can you imagine living inside “the secret place of the Most High”? Or, to be under God’s shadow?
Imagine how secure it is, and how big His shadow.
This week has been a trying one for me at work, and the busy times took over much of of my days.
I’ve had to work hard to keep my solitude, and my calm. Reading Psalm 91:1 again reinforced God’s promises in me.
God’s promises in Psalm 91:1 is for today, and for all eternity.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty”.
– Psalm 91:1
The Lord is our outer and inner-dwelling, for as His Holy Spirit dwells in us, so do we dwell in Him.
And both is only possible through His grace.
Dwell, abide, place, shadow.
Simple, heavy words. I think of a place, a house, a mansion, a safe place where the Lord God secures us in His heavy presence, in His shadow.
To dwell in a place is to live there. To dwell on something is to think and talk about it for a long time.
Imagine living in, inside of, the very Top Secret Place of the Most High God Himself. So top secret that only a select few know about it.
In a few spy shows I’ve watched, whenever anyone who didn’t have the right credentials asked about sensitive information, they’ll be told, “It’s on a need to know basis and you don’t need to know”, or “It’s above your paygrade”.
Fortunately, for us who seek the Lord, we are on that “need to know” list. Sure, it would have been above our paygrade , above our everything, to know Him, but He made a way through His Son, Jesus Christ.
God is My Dwelling Place
I made it through this week by God’s grace alone.
I cannot tell you how many desperate prayers I whispered at work when tasks and demands from my employer and customers threatened to overwhelm me.
As an introvert, I try to avoid confrontation as much as humanly possible, and most times that means allowing people to be rude and interrupt my schedule, or talk about their problems to me instead of telling them that I have a busy day.
Times like this make me grateful for God’s promises.
I reach out and find Him there. And around me, holding me wrapped in His gentle embrace.
His presence calms me. Quietly nourishes my soul.
O Lord, to dwell in Your presence, just like David’s prayer.
To dwell in You, O Lord, and dwel upon Your marvelous light.
May Your grace abide upon us as we abide in You.
Amen.
