Are they still the same desires you had?
Do they still look like the ones you gave Him?
Or does He take them, examine them, thrpow them into His refinery, run them through His cleansing fire, pour them out into His moulds, the ones He has shaped just for you, and then give them to you.
But first, and more importantly, we must first delight ourselves in Him, just as it says in Psalm 37.
Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 NKJV
When you read the entire chapter, you will see that there is a lot going on in it. It is attributed to King David, and he starts off by telling us not to “fret because of evildoers”, and not ro “be envious of the workers of iniquity” because they will be cut down, they will meet a nasty end (I’m paraphrasing; verses 1 and 2).
He exhorts us to “trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness” (verse 3). Right after that comes the promise that when we delight ourselves in the LORD, He shall give us the desires of our hearts.
There is indeed a lot going on here that I will meditate on and share in a future post. Today, I’m reflecting on what our desires look like before and after we give them to God.
I think that the ‘before’ look is raw and selfish, full of all our wants, wishes, dreams, and lusts and greed for things. After God goes through them, they come out different, refined and pure. Aligned to His desires and purpose for us.
And we find that its what we’ve been after all along.
Delight yourself in the LORD today and He will give you the desires of your heart.
