A Psalm to Encourage You as You Begin This New Year

As you look back through the year (or years) you’ve passed, I know certain Bible verses will spring to mind that cemented God’s love, mercy, and grace, and how they carried you through.

During a difficult time in my life, when I was trying to come to terms with the death of loved ones, and carried the added stress of being the sole bread-winner in my family, one verse from Psalm 32 was my lifeline.

You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance

A Particularly Dark Day

After a particularly stressful day at work, I caught the bus which got stuck in traffic and a journey that used to take 30 minutes at the most, lasted for a little more than an hour. That, plus the overall family burdens stretched my already thin patience almost to shreds. I found myself yelling at my nephews, nieces and my mother.

Escaping to my room, I fell to my knees in prayer. Words tumbled out of my mouth in a rush, that were more groans and cries than words. I wasn’t making sense, even to my own ears. That’s when the Holy Spirit prompted me to stop and open my Bible.

It opened to pages 364 and 365 of my Bible (NKJV by Thomas Nelson) which contains parts of Psalm 31 to 35. I started reading Psalm 32 and verse 7 was like a balm, calming my mind and eased my soul.

God’s Promises Never Fail

I’ve claimed the promises of Psalm 32 verse 7 at various times since then. And the Lord God has never ever failed to keep His word.

Read the verse and incorporate it’s life-giving words into your prayers. Claim God’s promise that He is your hiding place and your refuge.

Trust in Him. He will surround you with His songs of deliverance. Amen
