Photo Walk: The Cute But Shaggy Soldier

Isn’t this cute little thing too graceful to be called ‘shaggy’ or even ‘soldier’?

I think I’d call it the Graceful Knight. I can’t find a prettier synonym for the word ‘tenacious’, so knight it is.

A black and white photo of Galinsoga quadriradiata, a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae which is known by several common names, including shaggy soldier, Peruvian daisy, hairy galinsoga. Its native home is apparently central Mexico, although it has become naturalized in many other places including Nadi, Fiji Islands. Botanists call it Galinsoga quadriradiata. Yes, a mouthful. Locally, it’s leaves are rubbed together and the juice applied to scratches to disinfect and stop the bleeding. It stings but it works.

The graceful knight is tenacious. It grows everywhere here, and I suppose it’s the same where you are.

Have you posted any photos of the graceful knight AKA shaggy soldier online? If you have, do share the link in the comments section below.
