Why God Alone Is My Unshakeable Refuge

Each and every single time I need Him, He’s never let me down. Running to God first is now my default reaction whenever I need help, but it didn’t use to be that. I used to hide and try to ignore my troubles hoping they’ll go away on their own. It never worked but that didn’t stop me falling into that habit each time.

Until things got so bad I feared that, like Humpty Dumpty, I was going to break into pieces and there was no one to put me together again.

I was utterly alone. I’ve never been one to share my feelings and problems with anyone because I was taught that as a woman, my only value and worth was to serve others: be an obedient daughter, selfless sibling, hardworker who puts her job before her life, and a good woman who shows how much she loves her family by sacrificing any dreams and goals she’s ever had, might have had, had she been allowed to have them, and focuses her entire existence on what her family wants.

It’s even harder when you’re unmarried, and childless as I am – another story for another time.

You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

My Knight In Shining Armour

Through grief and other dark times in my life, I’ve learned to be honest to God about what I’m going through.

It’s not easy. In fact, even now, in my quiet times, I still try to rationalise things, making excuses for my behaviour and trying to get Him to understand. He lets me rant on until I either run out of words, or realise that I’m having a monologue and not a conversation, then the Holy Spirit gently nudges me to quiet down, and just be still.

Be still and know that I AM God.

I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Psalm 46:10 NKJV

Trust Him for He Alone Is God

He is your God; He is our God. And He alone is our Heavenly Father, who is always there for us, ready to hear out our hearts, and help us in our time of need.

I invite you today, right now, to be still and acknowledge Him, His presence in your life, in this world, in your every moment.

Tell Him that you know He’s there, in your darkest hour, and in the brightest of days. You know He’s always there.

Prayer

“Our Heavenly Father, thank You, for being always there for us! Thank You, that You still hear my cry, and You know my every needs, and all my wants, my hidden desires and heartbreaks. Please, help me to practice more of Your presence in my daily life. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen.”

Writing Prompts

Write your prayer, whether a short one like the one above, or a longer conversation with our Heavenly Father, write it honestly and truthfully, and allow all your emotions to come to the fore.

Don’t hold back anything. Trust Him with your heart.
