This New Year, Get Back to The Basics of Your Faith in God

As we head into the first week of this new year, let’s take a moment, slow down, reflect on the year that’s passed, and think about what comes next.

Make this a good moment to step back. Back to the basics of your faith in God. Back to the root of your writing, photography, and other creative practices.

One thing is clear: God doesn’t want us to just “do more.” He wants us to ‘be more’.

That means we’re to go deeper into intimacy with Him. Be okay with where you are right now, show yourself some grace and forgive yourself for your past mistakes, and learn from them.

I know you’ve heard all this before. The thing is, all the good advice you’ve heard before still rings true because they work.

All I can add is: Embrace your God-given personality and use it to worship God in the way He likes you to. Through your quiet and steady faith; through your solitude; through your creativity.

God fights for those who trust in Him. He rewards those who follow Him. He’s a refuge to those who prioritise Him, their relationship with Him, and time with Him above all else.

He husbands those who hunger for more intimacy with Him. Those who are in hot pursuit of His heart.

Writing Prompts

If you’re a diarist, like me, you’ve probably bought a new diary or notebook for this new season in your life.

Put it to good use and store in it your reflections on the year that was, and this new one.

  • List down all the things you’d like to do less of.
  • List down all the things you’d like to do more of.
  • What is one thing you’d like to change about yourself, and why?
